Mentorship Was Never a Smooth Ride
Behind the glorified idea of mentorship: blood, sweat, and a market that refuses to cooperate on schedule.
People picture mentorship as a smooth highway: wise words, grateful mentee, steady progress. The reality is closer to a construction site. There are weeks when the advice lands perfectly, and months when the same advice bounces off a market that refuses to cooperate.
I have mentored closers who doubled their ticket size in a quarter, and others who needed a full year just to unlearn the fear of the follow-up call. Both journeys were worth it. Neither was smooth. The blood, sweat and tears are not a bug in the process — they are the process.
So if you are looking for a mentor, do not look for comfort. Look for someone who is still in the market themselves, still closing, still getting told no. That is the only mentorship that survives contact with a real quarter.
